PERSONALIZED MENTORSHIP

At Vertex School, you’ll learn directly from Technical Artists and Pipeline Developers who use Python every day to solve production challenges at studios like CD Projekt Red, Meta, and Playground Games.

Your mentor will help you develop the mindset of a toolmaker—someone who can see a bottleneck and build a script to fix it. You’ll get personalized feedback on your code, UI design, debugging process, and tool functionality so you can write clean, efficient, and studio-ready Python scripts that actually get used in production.

STUDIO-LEVEL TOOLS AND WORKFLOWS

In this term, you’ll operate like a studio tech artist, owning a project from start to finish. You’ll follow the workflows and problem-solving strategies used by professionals in real production environments, applying everything you've learned across Python, Blueprints, shaders, and Unreal systems.

Whether you’re building a custom tool for Maya or Unreal, creating a VFX-driven gameplay sequence, or engineering a modular world-building system, you’ll focus on performance, scalability, and user experience. This is your chance to prove you can go deep, solve real challenges, and make tools, systems, or visuals that studios actually want to use.

SKILLS YOU NEED BEFORE YOU START

To succeed in this term, you should have completed Terms I-V of the Tech Art Program or have equivalent experience in game art pipelines, scripting (Blueprints or Python), shaders, and procedural workflows. You should also have a clear idea of the direction you’d like to specialize in, whether that’s shaders, tools, VFX, procedural art, or gameplay programming.

This term shifts from structured learning to independent exploration with expert support. You’ll be expected to manage your time, set clear goals, and execute a technically and creatively ambitious final project that showcases your chosen specialization.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

In Term VI, you’ll apply everything you’ve learned to carve your own path as a Technical Artist. You’ll choose a specialization track—like Shader Artist, Tool Developer, VFX Artist, or Gameplay Programmer—and work one-on-one with a mentor to build a capstone project that reflects your strengths and interests. In this course, you will:

  • Choose a specialization and follow a self-directed learning path tailored to your career goals

  • Design and build a final project that demonstrates advanced technical skill and creative problem-solving

  • Integrate workflows across Unreal, DCC apps, scripting languages, or VFX systems, depending on your focus

  • Receive weekly mentor feedback to guide your design, development, polish, and presentation

  • Learn how to scope a portfolio-ready project and make production-level decisions

  • Prepare and present your final capstone as a professional showcase piece

By the end of this term, you’ll graduate with a specialized, portfolio-grade project that proves your readiness to contribute at a professional level—and the confidence to step into your first (or next) role as a Technical Artist.
