What You’ll Learn

Real time hair is hard to figure out on your own. In this course we will demystify the process. You'll see Jansen Turk's entire process.

The course will go through the all the steps of creating hair cards, creating the hair layers, and establishing movement and volume. You'll learn the shape concepts of hair such as the X, the V, and most importantly the "fin". PROJECT ONE: SLICKED BACK HAIR

The first project you focus on in this industry focused course is Slicked Back Hair. This allows you to explore the Hair Card, the Base Layer and the Break Away in the most simple way possible.

PROJECT TWO: SHORT HAIR

The second project you focus on is short hair... kinda like Nathan Drake in Uncharted. This is the hair style many people start with not realizing that it is actually quite complex. The key is learning how to build Layering & Feathering.

PROJECT THREE: BOB CUT

The third project creates a Bob Cut style where you'll learn how to build volume and movement in straighter hair without flat or dead areas. Estimated arrival is in early March.

PROJECT FOUR: LONG HAIR

In the fourth project you'll build long flowing hair. This project will call upon all the skill you've built in the three projects above... and you'll need them. We'll cover clumping, transperancy hacks, movement, and much more. Estimated arrival is in mid April.

Jansen Turk

Jansen Turk recently finished up a 2 year stint working on CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077. For now, he can't share with you any of the amazing work that he did there but promises you that you're going to love it! Originally inspired by Uncharted to become a game artist the last two years at CD Projekt Red he's been living the dream and excited for everyone to see his work and the work of all the other amazing artists there.

What Can You Accomplish With This Course?

Meet Sushan Manandhar. He is an artist in our Game Artist Bootcamp. He had early access to this course and was able to achieve something amazing! Now it's your turn.

Laying out the hair cards has always been a tideous process and people usually say it needs a lot of practice. Now, after this course I would rather say yes practice is a must but knowing the proper process for laying haircards on different hairstyles is the preliminary fact. Jansen's process for laying cards on various rows was very powerful. His use of Transfer Maps for baking in Maya was also very helpful for getting me over my reliance on Arnold.
