Learn The Fundamentals Of Character Creation

Ivan Lopez has been creating characters for games and feature films for more than 4 years and currently works as a freelance Character Artist. Some of his most recent works are; Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, Men in Black: International, Godzilla King of the Monsters

Ivan will teach you the workflows for character creation and will guide you through all stages. You will learn all the steps in the pipeline and understand how to prepare your character for final presentation.

What You’ll Learn


The course will go through the full process of modeling and sculpting. Addressing how to apply practical workflows to create a game-ready character, from start to finish. The emphasis throughout the course will be on addressing the nuances of forms, structures, workflow, detailing, imperfections, concept direction, and presentation.

By the end of the course, students will have produced a portfolio-ready character. They should also have gained knowledge on how to troubleshoot new problems or tasks.

This workshop on Character Creation will consist of six live mentoring sessions. You’ll learn core character design skills and workflows and be part of a community of artists working to achieve next level quality in their work.

By the end of the workshop you'll:

  • Have developed a fluency in the various stages of the PBR workflow.
  • Know how to create dynamic poses for your character.
  • Have mastered the pipeline for 3D character creation.
  • Have created your own game-ready character.

Sprints

Block Out

Decide on concept, outline strategy for the concept. Work with a base mesh

Refining The Character

Will begin to sculpt the head and body, based off concept. Sculpt or Simulate your final Clothes Base.

Detailing

Adding Primary, Secondary and Tertiary details. Hand sculpting folds, damage, tension. Wrinkles & Pores details. Applying imperfections & micro details.

Texturing

Preparing the character to texture in Substance Painter. Base Materials done for every item of Clothing or Armor based on reference.

Grooming

 Xgen: Card Placement Workflow;  Interactive grooming detailing and modification of the main groom.

Lighting & Presentation

Basic Lighting Theory. Designing Lighting Styles Specific To Your Project. Bring all of your Elements to life
