PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Vertex School Game Development Program

WHAT IS A TECH ARTIST?

A tech artist bridges the gap between artists and programmers in game development or digital production.

They are skilled in both art and programming, using tools, scripts, and techniques to streamline workflows, optimize assets, and ensure that visual elements perform well in real-time environments.

Tech artists often create shaders, manage pipelines, and troubleshoot technical issues, enabling artists to focus on creativity while maintaining performance and efficiency in production.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The NEOM Game Tech Artist Online Program, taught by Vertex School, is a comprehensive 14-week online bootcamp designed to prepare students for careers in technical art, Unreal Engine development, and game creation.

Students will progress through a structured curriculum covering game art, Unreal Engine Blueprints, technical art, and game development processes, culminating in a capstone project that demonstrates their mastery.

DATES: December 9th, 2024 – March 26th, 2025
DURATION: 14 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8 PM AST (GMT+3)
LOCATION: Online

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Develop a foundational understanding of Blueprints in Unreal Engine: Students will gain basic coding knowledge using Unreal Engine’s visual scripting system, Blueprint, to manipulate variables, functions, and events.
  • Master the 3D modeling pipeline for game development: Students will learn essential 3D modeling skills, including low-poly modeling, UV mapping, and texture creation, using industry-standard tools like ZBrush and Substance Painter.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in PBR texturing and digital sculpting: Students will create believable textures and detailed digital sculpts, applying advanced techniques to enhance the realism and quality of 3D assets.
  • Implement and refine lighting, rendering, and camera techniques in Unreal Engine: Students will create and manipulate complex scenes in Unreal Engine, mastering lights, cameras, and rendering processes to bring their projects to life.
  • Design and develop gameplay mechanics and user interfaces: Students will use Blueprints to develop core gameplay mechanics and build user interfaces (UI) and heads-up displays (HUDs) with Unreal Motion Graphics (UMG).
  • Complete a full capstone project from planning to presentation: Students will apply all learned techniques in a final project, including level design, post-processing, lighting, and gameplay testing, culminating in a polished presentation of their game scene or asset pack.
